Pork meatballs in Taiwan are meatballs made with a boneless pork leg. It usually served as a meatball soup with fried rice noodles.

Where is it from?

During the end of the Ming Dynasty, a son showed his filial piety to his aged mother by mincing pork and making it into small meatballs, which were easy for his mother to eat. This story has become a possible origin of meatballs.

How do you prepare it?

Different from the meatballs on the spaghetti, Taiwanese meatballs are usually made with a boneless pork leg. After a series of different grinding and mixing processes, the pork becomes meatballs, which are not only soft but chewy.

Where do you buy it?

Residents in Hsin Chu City usually eat fried rice noodles with meatball soup or add meatballs into rice noodle soup; therefore, meatballs and rice noodles are regarded as the two specialties of Hsin Chu. The “Hai Rei Meatballs Store” is the most famous one in Taiwan.
