Where is it from?

Tapioca Milk Tea is a world famous tea derived from Taichung, Taiwan. In 1987, the manager of Yang-Xian Tea Shop (currently called Chun Shui Tang) mixed her favorite pearl tapioca with the best-selling milk tea and made it a dessert for herself. After a while, she decided to call it “Tapioca Milk Tea” and it soon became the most popular drink only in half a year’s time.

How do you prepare it?

Tapioca, also known as “Black Pearl,” is a kind of Taiwanese snack. People usually boil it until it turns into a transparent mix, chill it with cold water, stir it with a great amount of white sugar and then leave it for 30 minutes. After this process, the last step is to mix the tapioca with milk tea and then it will become a cup of delicious Tapioca Milk Tea.

Without a doubt, Tapioca milk tea is one of Taiwan’s most well-known cultural exports, enjoyed by people across the globe. 珍珠奶茶

珍珠奶茶簡稱珍奶,是一種起源於台灣台中市並發揚至全世界的茶類飲料。1987年,陽羨茶行(現名春水堂)的冷飲部店長林秀慧將自己喜愛的粉圓與當時銷售最好的冰奶茶調合在一起,作為自己工作閒暇時的點心,而後才將其定名為「珍珠奶茶」,並於推出後的半年內成為人氣第一的商品。

被稱為「黑珍珠」的粉圓其實是一種以樹薯粉做成的台灣小吃,通常會以滾水將其煮至透明的狀態後,撈出以冷水沖過,再與大量的白砂糖攪拌均勻並浸泡30分鐘。隨後,再將粉圓與現搖的奶茶相互調合即成珍珠奶茶。

珍珠奶茶無疑是台灣最享譽盛名且最普遍的一種飲料,不但被許多旅外的台灣人視為解鄉愁的第一良藥,更被美國有線電視新聞網CNN選為全球五十大飲品之一。

珍珠奶茶創始店「春水堂」、知名的「翰林茶館」及手搖飲料連鎖店「五十嵐」等皆是品嚐珍珠奶茶的好去處。
